Hi I’m Chris and I’m an artist-tutor working with themes of exhaustion, creativity and lockdown life.
This is a pilot project of three creative ‘modules’ initially written with for those with energy problems – specifically M.E. / C.F.S. The modules can be used by anyone. Because everyone’s energy issues are unique, the three modules are diverse, each focusing on different senses or concentration spans.
The Virtual Travel Writer – a creative writing project.
Use a webcam to watch a public space for a few days, make notes and weave it into a story
The Lockdown Lookdown – a simple photography exercise.
Photograph objects in your house from above in a set of nine.
Real House Music – a sonic project.
Record noises of your kitchen and bathroom and join a musical tradition called Musique Concrète
The modules in the menu are spoken and in text form. You click on one of the modules and are presented with audio lessons. Each entire lesson is deliberately short on the audio front – only 10 to 20 minutes. You can stream the audio on the page.
When you click on the blue download link (the audio is hosted by Bandcamp) you get taken to a download page to freely download not just the audio, but a .zip folder full of pdfs and any supplementary files you’ll need for the module. The text content and the spoken content are near-identical. You can use one, the other, or both as you slowly do the module!
It’s that simple. If you have M.E. / C.F.S. I’d love you to fill in the questionnaire at the end of your time on these projects. That helps me so much.
I hope you enjoy the modules, send me the results and fill in the questionnaire when you have finished! You can be anonymous or send me contact details for the results, which will be used to refine future modules.
This project was funded with help from Creative Edinburgh and The Centre for Creative Informatics, Edinburgh. It also uses support from sociologist Professor Betsy Thom.
Please use the contact form if you have any issues, comments, suggestions or anything else.
Dr Chris 🙂
